Finding a Proper Plastic Surgeon For Men is Critical

In the last two decades, the face of plastic surgery has changed considerably. More and more men are considering cosmetic surgery procedures because they want to keep their youthful competitive edge in the workforce. Obviously a man's body structure, goals and temperament are not the same as a woman's, so it is critical to find a qualified plastic surgeon familiar with a man's body. Men generally want reshaping and re-contouring.

Liposuction often provides result that cannot be achieved through diet or at the gym. Localized deposits of fat can be hard to exercise away. An added benefit is that areas continue to improve after the procedure when men head back to the gym. Love handles can usually be eliminated with liposuction. Many men who have enlarged breast tissue consider liposuction or a breast reduction procedure.

Men develop lines around the eyes and forehead just like women do. Botox smoothes fine lines on the face if treated early. It stops the pulling of facial muscles by weakening the tiny facial muscles. Results typically only last between three and six months though. Eyelid surgery can turn back the clock when the fine lines around the eyes turn into true wrinkles. A man can look more refreshed without changing his overall appearance when excess fat and skin is removed from the eyelid area.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American men had 1.2 million cosmetic non-surgical and surgical procedures in 2008 alone. That makes up about 10 percent of all of the cosmetic surgery procedures performed last year in the United States. Eyelid surgery, liposuction, rhinoplasty, hair transplants and male breast reduction were the top five plastic surgery procedures.

Last year more than 1,000,000 men had plastic surgery procedures, according the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the number is growing. Obviously, men have different goals than women when they seek out plastic surgery. The difference in anatomy means that it is not possible to offer the same cosmetic surgery procedures to men as women. It is imperative to find a plastic surgeon who is familiar with the male form for a satisfactory procedure and a successful outcome.

The relative permanence of cosmetic surgery entices many men to go ahead and book a consultation with a plastic surgeon. They also want to improve their image, because it offers a new look that may benefit their lifestyle and ultimately help them meet their professional and personal goals. Plastic surgery is a choice that most men and women agree on, according to the ASPS. They have found that 59 percent of men and 60 percent of women approve of cosmetic surgery.
